LADOJA HEADS FOR SUPREME COURT OVER OYO ELECTION

Still dissatisfied with the verdict of the appeal court on the petition he filed against the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in April 11 2015 governorship poll, the Accord party Governorship candidate and former governor of Oyo state, senetor Rashidi Ladoja, on Wednesday filed appeal processes at the supreme Court.
A statement signed by his senior media assistant, Alhaji Lanre Latinwo and made available to New Telegraph in Ibadan, said the processes were filed at the Apex court exactly on the 14th day as required by law.
According to sources, Latinwo attributed the delay in filing the appeal to the unnecessary holdup in the release of the Appellate court judgment by the panel that handled the appeal, adding that the release of a copy of the judgment at 4:30 pm on Tuesday December 29th, spoke volumes of calculated effort to frustrat the Accord party's determination to challenge the panel's decision at the highest court.
However, the statement noted that, but for God and the determination of Ladoja and his legal team, contesting the outcome the Appeal court verdict at the apex Court would have suffered a technical difficulty as a result of the difficulties created by the panel.
Finally, Senetor Rashidi Ladoja thanked the people of Oyo state for their unflinching support for him and reposing confidence in his ability to lead the state out of the current doldrums into which it had been plunged, stressing that "God is on the side of truth".

ISHAKU WINS AT THE APPEAL COURT AS ALHASSAN LOSES OUT

Senator Aisha Alhassan has lost the battle to claim the Taraba state Government house today as the court of appeal sitting in Abuja upturned the verdict of the election tribunal and ruled that the method of nomination of a candidate should not be one of the grounds for disqualification for the election as stated in the constitution and electoral act.
It also ruled that the issue of PDP primary which produced Governor Darius Ishaku was a pre-election matter that should not have been entertained by the tribunal. The court ruled that only INEC and members of PDP who participated in the primary election has the right to complain.
However, the court said whether the primary of a political party was done right or not, cannot be subject of an electoral petition. Also, the court said the most important question was whether the appellant was a member of PDP and was sponsored by the party for the gubernatorial.
Furthermore, the court ruled that Ishaku was validly nominated candidate of PDP for the election and he participated in the election. In the judgment of the court, Alhassan and APC have no right to challenge the election in which Ishaku emerged since none of them is a member of PDP.
Finally, according to the court, the decision of the tribunal not to take into consideration the testimony of appellant witnesses that the PDP primary election was shifted to Abuja because of security situation was perverse. It therefore set the decision of tribunal aside.

Atiku and 2019

The former vice president Atiku Abubakar is a prominent name in Nigeria political system. It shall be recalled that his impact can not be over emphasized in political atmosphere from second republic to date.
As a matter of fact, he was a noticeable Presidential aspirant under the defunct SDP when late Chief MKO Abiola won the primary to become the candidate that won the most free, fair and credible famous June 12, 1993 Presidential election that was annulled by the then military ruler.
Atiku who was fully exposed when he won the Anambra state Governorship election in 1999 before he was elected as vice president along with president Olusegun Obasanjo for eight years.
However, Atiku contested for Nigeria presidency under the platform of ACN again the late president Umar Musa Yar'adua of PDP and president Muhammadu Buhari of ANPP which he lose.
Unrelentedly we are all aware of his boldness and effort as a presidential aspirant along with Gov. Rochas Okorocha, Rabiu Kwankwaso when he contested primary election with president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 election.
Recently, there was a press release by Atiku that his political oppositions are planning to create rancor between him and president Buhari on allegation that he is holding a meeting in Dubai in preparation for his 2019 presidential ambition. He revealed that he was in Dubai on a medical treatment.
The issue is considering the antecedent of Atiku in  Nigeria political history to date, can he be ruled out of not grouping for 2019?
Moreover, is he the credible and right candidate from the North if Buhari refuse to contest in 2019?.
Most importantly, which political party platform will he use and is it the right time for that? The answers to those questions are expected from readers as event unfolds.

INEC UNDER NEW CHAIRMAN

The Nigeria president, president Muhammed Buhari has appointed a new chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Professor Attairu Mega after completion of his tenure.
The question that bother my heart is, can the chairman professor Manhood Yakub sustain the tempo of accomplishment of the former chairman in the conduct of election in Nigeria?
This question is being examined by concern people particularly when the election of kogi and bayelsa was declared inconclusive by INEC.
To recall, the election commission slogon"One man one vote, one woman one vote. As a matter of Facebookfact, the introduction of card reader, permanent voters card PVC, though, we are not yet there because of some lapses card reader recorded in the recent election. Certainly, Nigerians gave maximum support for the success of last general election and the new INEC chairman must restrategise to put sanity to areas of lapses attributed to the election conduct in the country.

BAYELSA JANUARY SUPPLEMENTARY ELECTION, EXPECTED ROLES OF INEC AND SECURITY AGENCIES

Ahead of the January 9th supplementary election in Bayelsa state, the state Governor, Seriake Dickson has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him the winner of the December 5th poll.
Dickson said, having won six out of the seven Local Government areas declared by INEC, he should be declared winner of the election and not the All Progressive Congress candidate Chief Timpre sylva.
Considering the breakdown of the statistical voting pattern in the last election which acknowledged low turnout of voters during poll. For instance, Sagbama local government area had a total number of 88,000 registered voters and the number of permanent voter cards collected was 73,000 while 35,000 voters were accredited.
Also, Ogba and Ekeremor local government aress, the number of registered voters in Brass LGA stood at 55,000 while the votes cast was 29,000 which is about the highest expected.
Apparently, the turnout in the fourth coming supplementary election may be low and may not be devoid of rancor and crisis. Therefore, INEC should embark on intensive mobilization of stakeholders, traditional rulers and electorate to come out in mass without fear of molestation to cast their vote on election day.
Most importantly, the security agents must double their effort before, during and after the election to have a peaceful atmosphere to give room for free and fair election.

KOGI 2015 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION AND NIGERIA JUDICIARY

Nigeria is currently witnessing unprecedented development in political atmosphere. Certainly, the Nigerian constitution in totality did not envisage such development. In my personal opinion, I easily concluded that, despite several constitutional amendments to date ,this reference book called the Nigeria constitution and even electoral act needs to be criticality examined and updated.
However, the circumstance am driving at is the aftermath of Kogi 2015 general election where late former Governor Abubakar Audu and Hon. John Faleke were the governorship and deputy Governor candidate respectively for All Progressive Congress (APC). May the soul of Audu rest in peace.
It is no more a news that INEC declared the election inconclusive which called for supplementary election where Mr Yahyah Bello who was not declared winner in APC Governorship primary election substituted to complete the supplementary election. Though, eventually declared by INEC as governor elect.
Obviously, Hon John Faleke has file petition at the governorship election tribunal to declare him governor elect and not Yahyah Bello of the same party. Now the question is, can the judiciary bail Nigeria out of the unprecedented development where two different candidates contested for different part of a single election with justice?
It could be recalled that there are different contradicting opinion from various Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) . By and large, the verdict or judgment of election tribunal shall be a new direction, reference in Nigeria politics and it will expose our nation judiciary to the world at large.
